Retired army officer and two suspects detained after arms raid in Secunderabad cantonment
Police have arrested a recently retired army officer and two accomplices in connection with the theft of rifles, magazines, night-vision equipment and ammunition from a Madras Regiment armoury in Secunderabad.
A coordinated investigation by Telangana Police, the National Investigation Agency and military intelligence led to the detention of a retired army officer and two alleged accomplices over an arms theft at the Madras Regiment armoury in Bolarum, Secunderabad cantonment. The break-in on August 30 resulted in the loss of 12 rifles, 21 magazines, a night-vision binocular and 1,912 rounds of ammunition. Police searched the officer’s residence in Mahabubnagar and later recovered the stolen items at a site in Hyderabad.
Authorities are probing whether an insider within the armoury facilitated the theft and are checking the recovered equipment to confirm that all missing items have been accounted for. The probe also seeks to determine the intended destination and motive behind the robbery. The incident highlights vulnerabilities in the security of military stores within the cantonment area.
