Retired IAS officer and son arrested after senior-citizen seat fight kills Delhi Metro rider

A 48-year-old man died on a Delhi Metro train after a dispute over senior-citizen seats, leading to the arrest of a 65-year-old retired IAS officer and his son.

On October 8, Pawan Sharma, 48, and his 65-year-old mother Durga Devi were traveling on a Delhi Metro train toward Yamuna Vihar when they occupied seats designated for senior citizens. After the train reached the Supreme Court station, Sanjay Pratap Singh, a 65-year-old retired IAS officer, and his 36-year-old son Sidharth Singh boarded at Mandi House and demanded the seats, sparking an argument that escalated into a fight.

Witnesses say Singh grabbed Sharma by the collar and slapped him, while his son struck Sharma as he tried to intervene. Sharma became unconscious, was taken to LNJP Hospital, and was declared dead. Delhi Metro Police filed a case under Sections 105 and 3(5) of the BNS, accusing the pair of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and common intention, and have remanded them to 14-day judicial custody.
