Retiring Air Force general warns of pilotless threats to US homeland security
Lt. Gen. Luke Ahmann, soon to retire, says the biggest security risk to the United States now comes from unmanned aircraft that can strike without a pilot.
Marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, Ahmann highlighted that modern threats can reach American soil without a human operator. He drew on his experience flying on the morning of the attacks and later leading First Air Force’s air-sovereignty missions across the continental United States. The general warned that unmanned aircraft systems pose the most serious danger to homeland security today. He urged policymakers to prioritize defenses against these pilotless platforms as he prepares to leave service.
