Reversed car on Slovenian highway crashes, killing two Romanian passengers
A Romanian driver who backed onto a Slovenian motorway was hit by a van, killing two Romanian occupants and injuring four others, including a critically wounded French child.
On a Wednesday night near the Slovenian town of Lukovica, a Romanian-registered car missed an exit, halted on the right-hand lane and began to reverse. A van traveling in the same direction collided with the reversing vehicle, resulting in a severe crash. Two Romanian passengers on the rear seat died instantly, while a French child sustained critical injuries.
The Romanian driver, the passenger on the right, and the Slovenian van driver each suffered minor wounds. Firefighters from the Domžale Protection and Rescue Center cleared the scene, disconnected vehicle batteries and removed spilled fluids. The injured were taken to the University Clinical Centre in Ljubljana, and traffic on the Maribor-bound highway was temporarily halted. Slovenian police are gathering evidence to determine whether criminal charges are warranted.
