Reynolds and Wrexham mock Southampton's spying scandal ahead of Championship clash
Actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac released a promotional video that taunted Southampton for its recent “Spygate” controversy before the clubs meet in the Championship.
Ahead of their Championship meeting, Wrexham’s co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac posted a video promoting Firefox that lampooned Southampton’s recent “Spygate” scandal. The duo spoke about protecting privacy, using a tree prop that mirrors the incident where a Southampton intern filmed Middlesbrough’s training from behind a tree. Last season, Southampton was expelled from the promotion playoffs and started one outlet campaign with a four-point deduction after the FA found the club had deliberately spied on rivals.
Manager Tonda Eckert has been charged with bringing the game into disrepute. Wrexham amplified the jab by sharing a social-media post featuring a spy emoji and a reminder to check training grounds before the game. The ongoing taunts join similar fan chants and mascot antics targeting Southampton throughout the season.
Why it matters
The stunt keeps the Spygate controversy in the public eye and adds tension to an upcoming league match.
