During a discussion organized by the World Championship of Legends, where he is slated to become a co-owner of the Australia Champions team, he noted that as more T20 tournaments launch, the space for ODIs will inevitably shrink. Ponting said he is not a fan of this development but sees it as a likely outcome.
He remained optimistic about Test cricket, insisting it will stay prominent provided countries like India, Australia, England and South Africa keep prioritising the longest format. The former skipper emphasized that something has to give, and the obvious casualty appears to be the ODI format.
