Right-wing Gaza settlers await Israeli army to open gates for new colonies

Extremist settlers calling themselves the “Pionieri di Gaza” are gathering near the Gaza Strip and say they will establish six new settlements once the Israeli army permits access.

A group of far-right activists calling themselves the “Pionieri di Gaza” has set up a forward base about a kilometre from the Gaza Strip. They claim there are currently 700 members and plan to create six colonies in the centre of the territory. The settlers say they will move in as soon as the Israeli military opens the gates. Their numbers are growing as more families register to join the effort.

Why it matters

The plan could reshape demographics and heighten tensions in an already volatile Gaza region.
