Rijenju rebukes Rahul Gandhi for politicising murder of Manipuri musician in Delhi

Union minister Kiren Rijiju accused Rahul Gandhi of turning the killing of Manipuri musician Chongtham Vikram Singh into a political issue, urging focus on swift police action.

Union minister Kiren Rijiju criticised Lok Sabha opposition leader Rahul Gandhi for using the murder of Manipuri musician Chongtham Vikram Singh as a political weapon, saying the issue demands immediate police response, not partisan debate. Rijiju emphasized that the North East Special Police Cell within the Delhi Police maintains constant vigilance and acts swiftly whenever a Northeast resident is harmed in the capital.

Gandhi had expressed condolences to the victim's family and pressed Home Minister Amit Shah and the Delhi Police for decisive action against what he described as growing lawlessness. The 54-year-old teacher died after confronting men over noise outside his home in Kilokari Village, Ashram area. Police received a call on September 7, registered a murder FIR, and have arrested all accused, including minors, while the investigation continues.

Why it matters

The dispute highlights tensions over safety for Northeast migrants in Delhi and the politicisation of crime investigations.
