Riot Games to cease active development of 2XKO fighting title by end of 2026
Riot Games announced it will stop further development of its free-to-play League of Legends fighting game, 2XKO, after 2026, though servers will remain online.
Riot Games confirmed that active development on 2XKO, its free-to-play League of Legends fighting game, will conclude at the end of 2026 due to insufficient player retention and financial sustainability. While the game launched in early-access on PC in October 2025 and reached consoles in January, engagement has remained relatively flat despite new character releases and competitive events. The company will keep servers running past 2026, unlock every playable champion, and issue refunds for money spent.
Earlier this year, Riot reduced the team working on the title, citing a lack of momentum to support its size. The announcement comes amid a broader trend of live-service projects faltering, including Sony's removal of live elements from its Horizon multiplayer effort, the shutdown of Highguard shortly after launch, Remedy's final update for FBC: Firebreak, and Epic Games' layoffs linked to Fortnite downturn.
Why it matters
Gamers and investors see the halt as a sign of challenges facing live-service games and the financial pressures on large studios.
