U.S. patients confronting IVF bills that can exceed $40,000 per cycle are increasingly turning to European clinics, especially in Greece and Spain, where a full cycle may cost as little as $3,000 to $6,000 plus medication. The Solomons, who sought treatment in Athens after a Florida quote shocked them, combined their medical visits with island tourism and welcomed a baby after two trips. Domestic costs have surged 90% since 2014, and only about a quarter of treatment demand is met due to limited insurance coverage.
While the Trump administration has floated a rule to expand employer fertility coverage and a discount site called TrumpRx, savings remain modest compared to rising medication prices. Experts warn that overseas treatment carries regulatory and logistical challenges, yet many patients view it as a viable, cost-effective alternative.
