Riverton garbage truck driver charged after fatal collision in Queens Park

A 59-year-old rubbish-truck driver from Riverton has been charged with dangerous driving causing death after hitting 70-year-old An Yu in Queens Park.

On September 7, a rubbish-truck operated by a 59-year-old driver from Riverton struck 70-year-old An Yu as he walked down Balaka Way in Queens Park, Perth. CCTV footage shows the vehicle reversing into the pedestrian, who suffered critical injuries and later died in hospital. Police have charged the driver with dangerous driving causing death.

Neighbours described An Yu as a quiet, gentle man who often walked the area after a stroke. Residents noted that the road is an unfinished cul-de-sac ending at a development site, making truck manoeuvres hazardous. Canning mayor Patrick Hall indicated the city will take appropriate steps to enhance safety on the road if needed. The driver is due in court in November.
