Rivian adds optional second-row captain's chairs to 2027 R1 models

Rivian confirmed that its upcoming 2027 model-year refresh will make captain’s chairs available for the R1S SUV, responding to long-standing customer requests for a more accessible second row. The seats are sold as part of the Sound and Vision package, which costs $2,500 and includes a glass roof and premium audio system; the chairs themselves cost $1,500 with the Black Mountain interior or $2,000 with the Ocean interior, raising the total optional expense to $4,500.

Each chair folds flat, is heated, and features stowable armrests, push-to-release cupholders, and full seat-belt tie-downs. Rivian also announced a shift away from its motor-count naming convention to three trim levels—Premium, Performance, and Quad—and introduced new wheel-tire combos for the R1T truck and a new Esker Silver paint finish for both models. Pricing for the R1 lineup will increase, with the R1T starting at $79,990 and the R1S at $83,990 before fees. The changes aim to enhance practicality for families while maintaining the brand’s high-end positioning.
