RJD delegation urges strict safeguards ahead of Bihar council vote count

Rashtriya Janata Dal leaders met the Bihar chief electoral officer with a ten-point demand list, seeking full transparency for the counting of eight legislative council seats.

On Monday, a delegation of Rashtriya Janata Dal representatives, headed by Maner MLA Bhai Virendra, visited the chief electoral officer’s office in Bihar to submit a detailed ten-point charter of demands concerning the counting of eight legislative council seats. The party highlighted concerns about potential vote manipulation and demanded that information on invalid ballots be disclosed to candidates and agents at the start of the count, and that counting pens be removed from officials’ possession.

The memorandum stressed that every stage of the counting must be insulated from administrative interference. The eight seats include four graduate constituencies (Patna, Darbhanga, Tirhut, Kosi) and four teacher constituencies (Patna, Darbhanga, Tirhut, Saran), with polling having taken place on October 23. Provisional turnout figures show 43.87% in the graduate seats and 74.55% in the teacher seats. The count is scheduled for Tuesday, and the results are seen as an early barometer of Bihar’s political landscape.

Why it matters

The RJD’s demands highlight electoral transparency concerns that could affect confidence in Bihar’s upcoming council election results.
