The Rassemblement national plans to hold its congress and a rally in Orléans despite warnings of possible counter-demonstrations and heightened security risks.
The far-right Rassemblement national is set to conduct its annual congress and a public meeting in Orléans, Loiret, this weekend. Party leader Jordan Bardella emphasized that the event will go ahead and appealed to the Ministry of the Interior for adequate security measures. Approximately fifty organisations have issued a call for a counter-demonstration to occur alongside the RN gathering.
The RN has pressed authorities to guarantee that its elected representatives and supporters can participate under normal, safe conditions. Meanwhile, the Gilets jaunes movement has called for a separate action on Saturday, adding to the tense atmosphere surrounding the congress.
