Rob Reiner honored at Emmys as posthumous win marks record-long acting span

At the recent Emmy Awards, Rob Reiner was honored with a heartfelt In Memoriam tribute that featured a folk rendition of “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and a speech by Jamie Lee Curtis recalling his beloved “Meathead” character. The ceremony also presented Reiner with a posthumous Emmy for guest-acting on “The Bear,” giving him a 48-year span between acting awards, a record previously held by his father Carl Reiner. Reiner, who passed away in December 2025 at age 78, is remembered for directing classics such as “The Princess Bride” and “When Harry Met Sally.”

His son, Nick Reiner, has been indicted on two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances and is held at Twin Towers Correctional Facility; a court hearing is scheduled for Oct. 23 to consider his request for $1.5 million in trust assets to fund a private attorney. The industry mourned the loss, noting his generosity and influence across film and television.
