Robert Carradine's heirs file lawsuit against UCLA over his suicide
The family of actor Robert Carradine has sued UCLA and the UC regents, alleging negligence and elder abuse that led to his suicide at a university psychiatric hospital.
Actor Robert Carradine, known for the 1980s “Revenge of the Nerds” films, entered UCLA's Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Westwood seeking help for bipolar disorder and suicidal thoughts. Nineteen hours after admission, he took his own life. His estate and children have brought a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleging that the psychiatric team acted negligently, committing elder abuse and neglect by leaving him unattended, providing a belt in a locked unit, and falsifying records.
The complaint lists the UC regents, doctors, nurses, clinical partners and other staff as unnamed defendants. Plaintiffs request unspecified general and wrongful-death damages along with compensation for hospitalization expenses. The filing claims UCLA ignored established safety protocols for patients with active suicidal ideation.
