Rockies remove former All-Star Michael Lorenzen, promote TJ Shook from Triple-A

The Colorado Rockies designated Michael Lorenzen for assignment and recalled right-hander TJ Shook from Triple-A Albuquerque to fill the rotation spot.

The Colorado Rockies have reshuffled their starting rotation by designating Michael Lorenzen for assignment following a 7.08 earned run average across 25 starts. Despite a better road ERA of 5.61, his home numbers at Coors Field were a troubling 9.12, and the team saw little trade interest. Lorenzen, a 2023 All-Star who threw a no-hitter for the Philadelphia Phillies in August 2023, was originally signed to a one-year, $8 million contract.

In his place, the Rockies recalled 28-year-old right-hander TJ Shook from Triple-A Albuquerque. The decision reflects the club’s effort to improve a rotation that has struggled in the hitter-friendly environment of Coors Field.

Why it matters

The roster change could affect the Rockies' pitching performance and season outlook.
