Rockstar Games faces Glasgow tribunal over mass dismissal of GTA VI staff
Rockstar Games will appear before the Glasgow Employment Tribunal after firing 31 employees who worked on Grand Theft Auto VI, a case brought by the IWGB union.
In October, Rockstar Games dismissed 31 staff members who had been contributing to Grand Theft Auto VI, informing many in person and others via short phone calls before locking them out of work systems. Protests erupted outside Take-Two Interactive’s offices in London, Paris and New York. The Independent Workers of Great Britain (IWGB) union has taken the case to the Glasgow Employment Tribunal, alleging illegal blacklisting, lack of disciplinary procedure, and retaliation for union organizing.
Rockstar contends the terminations resulted from violations of confidentiality agreements on a private union Discord channel. The tribunal will hear the case between September 10 and October 16, with the employees demanding reinstatement, compensation, and a ruling that their dismissals were unfair. The dispute also includes ongoing negotiations for formal union recognition, which would make Rockstar the largest union-recognised game studio in the UK if successful.
