Romania and United States deepen operational cooperation against transnational organized crime
Romanian officials met with a U.S. Department of Homeland Security delegation to expand joint efforts against drug trafficking, human smuggling and border threats.
Cătălin Predoiu, Romania's vice-prime minister and interior minister, met with a delegation from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security headed by John Gountanis to explore deeper operational collaboration. The dialogue centered on accelerating the exchange of intelligence, sharing best practices, and developing new joint initiatives to tackle transnational organized crime. Key priorities identified were drug trafficking, human trafficking, illegal migration and strengthening border security.
Participants also discussed adapting enforcement tools to new threat patterns and launching joint projects for experience exchange. The meeting reaffirmed both countries' commitment to continue the dialogue and identify further cooperative mechanisms.
