Romania, Bulgaria, Greece and Croatia seek joint plan to ease animal export restrictions
Romania, Bulgaria, Greece and Croatia agreed to cooperate on animal disease management to keep export flows open, said interim Agriculture Minister Tánczos Barna during the EU ministers’ informal meeting in Dublin.
At an informal gathering of EU agriculture ministers in Dublin, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece and Croatia pledged to work more closely on animal disease issues that threaten livestock trade. Interim Romanian Agriculture Minister Tánczos Barna highlighted the sector’s challenges, especially in sheep farming, and warned that broad restrictions could harm healthy farms and export markets. The four states agreed to share support and pursue scientific-based EU rules that allow proportional measures, including flexible regionalisation and targeted vaccination. Barna also urged the EU to provide sufficient financing for farm upgrades, digitalisation and animal-welfare compliance, stressing the importance of maintaining the EU’s livestock production capacity and reducing reliance on imported plant proteins.
