Romania faces rapid temperature drop and possible snow after scorching weekend

Romania experienced a brief spell of summer-like heat, with maximum temperatures of up to 32 °C on Saturday, especially in southern Banat and Oltenia. The following days will see a sharp cooling as a cold air mass advances, bringing rain to Maramureș, Transylvania, Moldova, Dobrogea and most of Muntenia, with isolated showers elsewhere. Mountainous areas at higher elevations are expected to receive mixed precipitation, and snow may fall on the highest peaks.

Winds will strengthen, reaching gusts of 70-90 km/h on ridgelines. By Tuesday, temperatures will generally stay below 23 °C, and on Wednesday daytime highs will range from 13 °C to 21 °C, with the lowest values in eastern Transylvania and northern Moldavia. The rapid shift follows a notably warm second half of September.
