Romania ramps up gas imports and storage injections ahead of winter

Transgaz data show Romania’s daily gas imports have jumped by nearly 3 million cubic metres, taking the Kardam/Negru Vodă flow to 14.2 million m³ and raising the Ruse/Giurgiu line to 0.7 million m³. Domestic output increased modestly to 23.2 million m³ per day, while shipments to the Republic of Moldova and the Arad-Szeged pipeline to Hungary remained unchanged. The net gain of almost 4 million m³ in the National Transmission System is being absorbed by underground storage, with injection rates exceeding 13 million m³ daily and storage now around 78 % full, roughly ten points above the EU average. This comes despite the European Commission’s relaxed 90 % target for winter storage, as higher gas prices and geopolitical uncertainty motivate market participants to build a larger buffer.
