Romania rushes to clear backlog and unlock remaining PNRR funds
The Investment and European Projects Ministry says Romania has roughly two weeks to finish pending administrative steps needed to draw additional PNRR money this year.
Romania faces a tight two-week timeframe to settle outstanding administrative procedures that block the disbursement of more National Recovery and Resilience Plan resources before year-end, according to Investment and European Projects Minister Mihai Alexandru Ghigiu. He emphasized that all stalled actions from recent months must be resolved quickly to maximise fund inflows. The ministry has responded by expanding teams and arranging direct coordination with the ministries responsible for each PNRR component.
A first coordination meeting with Development Minister Alexandru Stoica defined immediate steps, and further sessions with other ministers are scheduled. Ghigiu stressed that the stakes are high, linking the funds to local infrastructure, schools and hospitals, and affirmed ongoing negotiations to secure the entitled EU resources.
Why it matters
Timely clearance of the backlog determines whether Romania can receive crucial EU funds for infrastructure and public services this year.
