Romania's GDP contracts in Q2 2026, with trade and industry also slipping
Romania's gross domestic product fell in the second quarter of 2026 compared with the same period in 2025, and both trade and industry showed declines.
Data released by the National Institute of Statistics show a contraction in Romania's GDP for Q2 2026 relative to Q2 2025, affecting both the raw and seasonally adjusted series. The first half of 2026 also recorded a lower output than the first half of 2025. The downturn was reflected in weaker performance across the trade and industrial sectors, which contributed negatively to overall growth.
