Romania to launch EU-backed financing scheme for sheep farm biosecurity
The Ministry of Agriculture said a new funding line will support sheep breeders in upgrading biosecurity, covering up to 90% of eligible costs with a 10% co-payment.
Romania's Ministry of Agriculture announced a dedicated financing measure for sheep producers, designed to meet the biosecurity standards required for livestock health. Under the DR-21 intervention, the scheme will fund investments such as isolation shelters, diagnostic tools and quarantine infrastructure, with European Union resources covering the bulk of costs and farmers providing a modest 10% contribution. Officials are preparing the legal framework and procedural guidelines, with the management authority and monitoring committee expected to complete their steps soon.
Once the applicant guide enters public consultation, the funding line will be opened later in the year. The initiative responds to recent veterinary challenges in the ovine sector and seeks to strengthen disease prevention on farms.
