Romanian arrested in Italy for cloning police fuel cards and reselling fuel
Italian investigators detained a Romanian suspect after uncovering a scheme that copied State Police fuel cards and used them to obtain fuel for resale.
A Romanian citizen was taken into custody by the Mobile Brigade in Torino following a probe that revealed a systematic fraud involving cloned State Police fuel cards. The investigation, prompted by a complaint from the Mobile Section IX in Bari, found that the cards were used at times, locations and stations inconsistent with police vehicle operations. Video surveillance and telephone records helped identify two Romanians operating the cloned cards and two additional Romanians purchasing the illegally obtained fuel.
A search uncovered roughly 30 forged cards and the cloning device. The case outlines the full chain from card duplication to fuel acquisition and its final illegal distribution.
