Romanian carrier Dan Air files for insolvency amid rising debts

Dan Air submitted an insolvency petition to the Ilfov Tribunal on 22 October, following the recent filing by fellow airline AnimaWings.

On 22 October, Dan Air lodged an insolvency filing with the Tribunalul Ilfov, becoming the latest Romanian airline to seek court protection after AnimaWings' recent petition and flight suspension. The company's 2025 accounts reveal a substantial rise in debt and a negative equity position, indicating severe financial strain. Established in 2017 under the name Just Us Air, Dan Air initially provided charter services before launching its own scheduled flights from Brașov and later Bacău Airport.

It currently operates regular routes from Bucharest and Bacău to destinations such as London, Dublin, Brussels, Milan, Turin, Bologna, Damascus and Ibiza. As a member of the International Air Transport Association, the carrier intends to maintain these services while the insolvency case proceeds. Creditors, including Banca Transilvania and ROMATSA, have also filed petitions against the airline.

Why it matters

The filing signals growing instability in Romania's aviation sector, affecting travelers and creditors.
