Romanian court moves Crevedia explosion case to trial, rejects defendants' procedural challenges
The Răcari Court ordered the substantive trial of the Crevedia LPG station explosion case, dismissing objections from Flagas SRL and the accused.
The Judecătoria Răcari announced on 12 October 2026 that the criminal proceedings concerning the August 2023 Crevedia LPG station blast will proceed to a substantive hearing. The court dismissed Flagas SRL’s petition to have the case returned to the prosecutor and the defendants’ attempts to bar key evidence, including investigation reports and expert analyses. Prosecutors have indicted the station’s owners, Ionuț-Daniel Doldurea and Cosmin-Ionuț Stîngă, and the operating company Flagas SRL for culpable homicide, disaster-related offenses and breaches of occupational safety regulations.
The explosion killed six people and wounded 54, destroying numerous homes. The ruling also confirmed existing precautionary measures in light of extensive civil claims. While the judgment is not final, it can be contested within three days.
Why it matters
The trial will decide responsibility for a deadly industrial disaster and shape compensation for many victims.
