Interim Defence Minister Radu Miruță disclosed that three additional ammunition contracts have been signed with Uzina Mecanică Sadu. The deals are intended to equip the Romanian Army with locally manufactured rounds and to maintain employment at the plant during its extensive revitalisation programme. Miruță explained that, after the CSAT and Parliament approved the SAFE framework, the Sadu facility will produce ammunition for the Army's new assault weapon using modern production lines.
He also announced a partnership with the American firm USBL to create a new ammunition range on the Sadu 2 platform. Miruță highlighted the broader strategy of preserving critical Romanian factories, citing examples such as the Mangalia shipyard, FA Cugir, Pirochim Victoria and the Mediaș platform, all revived within the past year.
Why it matters
The contracts boost domestic defence capacity and protect jobs at a key Romanian industrial site.
