Romanian deputies vote to make part-time workers pay full social contributions
Parliamentarians approved a change that requires employees on part-time contracts to contribute the full amount of CAS and CASS, rather than a reduced rate.
During a Monday session, deputies discussed a revision to Law No. 227/2015 that had unintentionally fostered informal employment. The amendment, identified as PL-x 352/2023, seeks to calculate social security (CAS) and health insurance (CASS) contributions for part-time contracts based on the real income earned each month, rather than using the country's minimum gross salary as a benchmark. This change would effectively require part-time workers to pay the same contribution rates as full-time employees. A final vote is set for Wednesday, which, if passed, will restore the earlier formula that allowed part-time staff to contribute at a reduced, part-time level.
