Romanian Deputy Government Secretary Cristina Trăilă Charged with Abuse of Influence
The National Anticorruption Directorate has brought a criminal case against Cristina Trăilă, deputy secretary-general of the Bolojan government, accusing her of facilitating influence-peddling.
The National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) has indicted Cristina Trăilă, who serves as deputy secretary-general of the Romanian government under Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, on charges of complicity in the misuse of official influence. The case was transferred to the Bucharest Court of Appeal because Trăilă is also a qualified attorney, and appellate courts handle cases involving lawyers. According to the indictment, Trăilă allegedly assisted Barbu Mihai in exerting pressure on the president of the national veterinary service to remove the director of the Vaslui regional office and install a candidate approved by businessman Fănel Bogos.
Prosecutors claim the objective was to obtain undue advantages for Bogos and his enterprise. In a related hearing, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan testified as a witness regarding a meeting with Bogos. The investigation remains ongoing.
