Romanian electoral authority to submit early election bill for transparency review

At a press conference in Ploieşti, Adrian Ţuţuianu, president of the Autoritatea Electorală Permanentă, stated that the draft law governing snap parliamentary elections will be placed in the transparency procedure next week. The bill seeks to modify Law 208/2015, which was designed for regular-term elections, to accommodate a 90-day window required by the Constitution for early polls. Ţuţuianu identified obstacles including the short time frame for mail-in ballots and overseas voting, proposing new registration periods and reduced signature thresholds for party lists.

He also called on parliamentary parties to take up the draft, refine it, and pass it before any decision to dissolve Parliament. Additionally, the proposal assigns the government, upon recommendation from the electoral authority and the interior ministry, the task of fixing the election date and covering the associated costs.
