Romanian Finance Minister to Marry Greek Counterpart in High-Profile Ceremony

Romanian Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare will be married by Greek Finance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis in a black-tie ceremony in Bucharest.

Romanian Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare and his partner, a 30-year-old popular-music singer, will be married in Bucharest with a black-tie dress code. The officiant will be Greek Finance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis, who also chairs the Eurogroup and has a background in digital and education ministries. Nazare and Pierrakakis first met in 2020 during Romania’s campaign to host a European cybersecurity centre, and have since collaborated on numerous EU initiatives.

Pierrakakis arrived in Romania for an official meeting with President Nicușor Dan at the Cotroceni Palace, though the purpose of the visit was not disclosed. The wedding invitation emphasizes the personal significance of the Greek minister serving as godfather of the ceremony. Their previous official encounter took place in Athens during a 2025 visit focused on bilateral economic cooperation.

Why it matters

The wedding links two senior finance ministers, underscoring personal ties that may influence Romania-Greece economic collaboration.
