Romanian foreign minister likens Romania-US ties to a milkshake
Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu used a milkshake analogy to describe the enduring partnership between Romania and the United States during a side event at the UN General Assembly.
At a discussion hosted by the Council for Foreign Relations on the margins of the UN General Assembly, Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu compared the Romania-United States partnership to a milkshake, emphasizing that the bond is still based on affection. She noted that, unlike a marriage that might dissolve, the two nations aim to "buy a bigger house" together, referring to deeper cooperation. Țoiu pointed to the substantial U.S. presence at the Mihail Kogălniceanu military base, the strategic Deveselu shield, and joint defence projects against potential threats.
She argued that the intertwined economic and security interests are inseparable, much like the ingredients of a milkshake, and that this synergy influences daily issues such as energy prices and living costs worldwide. The minister stressed that domestic concerns and foreign policy complement rather than compete with each other.
