Romanian government launches portal exposing salaries and ties of state company executives
Vicepremier Oana Gheorghiu announced a new website that publishes remuneration, contracts and political affiliations of leaders in 121 state-owned firms.
A government-run portal, guvernanta.gov.ro, was officially launched to centralise information on the management of 121 state-owned enterprises under central authority. The site provides details such as salaries, mandate contracts, résumés and declared political affiliations of board members, supervisors and directors. According to Vicepremier Oana Gheorghiu, the data reveal that many senior officials earn substantial sums and that over a hundred individuals occupy at least two leadership roles at the same time.
Gheorghiu emphasized that transparency is essential for efficient and prosperous public companies. In a televised appearance, former deputy secretary general Cristina Trăilă highlighted the existence of many underperforming state institutions and questioned the justification for maintaining executives in companies that have posted losses for years.
