Romanian government moves to approve Braşov-Făgăraş highway project
The Braşov-Făgăraş motorway has entered the stage where the Romanian Government will approve its investment value after a public consultation.
After concluding a public consultation, the Ministry of Transport has submitted the Braşov-Făgăraş motorway project to the Romanian Government for approval of its investment value. The plan is to finance the highway through EU Transport Programme 2021-2027, the national budget allocated to the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, and any other sources that may be found. The motorway will span the municipalities of Braşov, Codlea, Dumbrăviţa, Şercaia, Şinca and Mândra, creating a fast link between Braşov and Făgăraş and later joining the Făgăraş-Sibiu segment.
The design includes a single road node at Şercaia, service areas, parking, a maintenance centre, numerous bridges, viaducts and six animal-friendly tunnels. The project is slated for a three-year construction period.
Why it matters
The highway will enhance transport links in central Romania, supporting regional mobility and economic growth.
