Romanian government unveils plan to curb school violence and boost digital education

Prime Minister Luca Niculescu announced a joint action plan with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and education stakeholders to increase safety in schools and advance digital tools.

At the ceremony marking the appointment of Sorin Costreie as Education Minister and Sorin-Gabriel Ionescu as delegate for pre-university education, Prime Minister Luca Niculescu highlighted school safety as a top priority. He outlined a forthcoming action plan to be drafted with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, parent representatives, psychologists’ associations and teachers, focusing on preventive patrols, strict bans on bladed weapons and increased counselling services.

The government will maintain initiatives such as “Masă sănătoasă” and “Școală după școală” for disadvantaged students. Niculescu also stressed the need to modernise the education system through digitalisation, linking it to the implementation of the RO Wallet to streamline access to school documents and communication among students, parents and schools.
