Romanian leu slides as euro hits record high against national currency

The National Bank of Romania released new exchange rates on Friday, showing the euro rising to a historic level against the leu.

On Friday, the National Bank of Romania published its updated foreign-exchange rates, with the euro surging to a historic 5.3447 lei, up nearly seven bani from the previous day. The US dollar was quoted at 4.7519 lei, and the British pound at 6.2764 lei, both reflecting notable appreciation. The Swiss franc showed the strongest jump, moving to 5.7347 lei. In parallel, the price of gold increased by more than 13 lei per gram. These figures represent the bank's reference rates, which differ from commercial banks' buying and selling prices.
