Romanian man and brother charged with murder of Hungarian parish priest after robbery

Hungarian prosecutors have charged a Romanian national and his sibling with a premeditated murder that occurred on 26 August 1991 in Paloznak, where the local parish priest was killed during a robbery. According to the indictment, the men learned that the priest possessed significant cash and valuable items, prompting them to travel from Romania to Budapest and then to Paloznak with unknown accomplices. After confronting the housekeeper and the priest’s sister, they bound and repeatedly beat the 72-year-old priest, leading to his death on the spot, while the sister was left with lasting impairment. The court is asked to impose life imprisonment on the elder brother, a fixed-term sentence on the younger, order their deportation, and confiscate the proceeds of the crime.
