Romanian MEP Rareș Bogdan warns EU of growing discontent after AfD win in Saxony-Anhalt

After the AfD secured the most seats in Saxony-Anhalt's state parliament, Romanian MEP Rareș Bogdan posted a stark warning to the European Union. He said the outcome reflects a broader sense of alienation caused by heavy bureaucracy, industrial dependence on external powers, and stagnant living standards. Bogdan emphasized that Brussels must listen to citizens’ concerns or risk losing legitimacy.

He linked the region’s post-reunification economic challenges—lower wages, pension gaps and reliance on subsidies—to the current vote. The MEP concluded that without policy adjustments, the EU could see a continued rise of anti-establishment parties across Europe.
