Romanian police locate 401 Schengen-flagged individuals and execute 19 EU arrest warrants in one week

During the period 11-17 September, Romanian police executed 19 European arrest warrants and detected 50 persons denied entry or stay in the Schengen area, according to an official communiqué. A total of 401 individuals flagged in the Schengen Information System were located on Romanian soil after an extra information exchange through the SIRENE office of the International Police Cooperation Centre. Among them, 183 were sought for participation in judicial proceedings and six were reported missing by Schengen partners; authorities also confiscated 27 documents and 29 vehicles for use as evidence.

Conversely, 107 people wanted by Romanian authorities were identified abroad, including 19 subject to European arrest warrants, 15 flagged for entry refusal, 26 sought for judicial cases and eight reported missing. Partner states likewise uncovered 63 documents and six vehicles. Since Romania’s full entry into the Schengen zone in January 2025, border controls with Hungary and Bulgaria have been removed, with police now able to conduct checks through the eDAC application when needed.
