Romanian Presidency says exploded Constanța drone likely hijacked by Russia

The Romanian Presidential Administration, responding to journalists, acknowledged that the maritime drone which exploded in the Port of Constanța appears to have been taken over by Russian forces, according to preliminary assessments. This follows earlier exclusive disclosures that five Ukrainian drones were intercepted by Russia, one of which was directed to the port’s dana 78 adjacent to the Oil Terminal, where a vessel carrying toxic methanol was present.

The administration noted that other NATO allies, especially the Baltic states, have identified the same pattern. Officials said Romanian authorities managed the incident efficiently, testing the country’s capacity to deal with emerging threats. The investigation remains ongoing, now four months after the event, exceeding the original 7-10-day timeline set by President Nicușor Dan. The statement was given to journalist Paul Angelescu during a “România, te iubesc!” segment.
