President Nicușor Dan used his participation in the European Arctic Summit in Rovaniemi to promote a strategic connection between the Black Sea and the Arctic. He praised Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo for organizing the summit and reiterated that European security is a shared responsibility across the continent. Dan outlined a vision that includes enhanced military mobility linking the Black Sea to northern Europe, alongside a structured dialogue to foster strategic understanding.

He argued that the European Union should play a key role in boosting defence capacity, economic security and connectivity in these regions. The president also called for close coordination with NATO, coherent trade and environmental policies, and collaboration with key partners such as the United States. Finally, he urged that these priorities be reflected in the upcoming revision of the EU’s Arctic strategy.
