Romanian President Nicușor Dan backs balanced NATO spending in US radio interview

In a conversation on SiriusXM’s “The Julie Mason Show,” President Nicușor Dan emphasized the importance of Romania’s strategic ties with the United States while acknowledging American concerns about NATO’s spending balance. He affirmed that the United States has shouldered a large share of Europe’s defence for many years, a point previously raised by President Donald Trump. Dan pointed to progress made at the NATO summit in The Hague and the recent meeting in Ankara, where Romania was among the first countries to agree to increase its defence expenditures.

He argued that a more equitable financial contribution from all NATO members is necessary. The president also underscored the enduring bilateral trust between Romania and the United States, focusing on security and economic cooperation.
