President Nicușor Dan participated remotely in the latest gathering of the Friends of Competitiveness, a forum that brings together leaders from 19 EU member states ahead of next week’s European Council summit. The discussion centered on the impact of energy prices on competitiveness, international trade dynamics, and the drive to simplify and de-bureaucratise EU structures. Dan noted that member states agree on the urgency of measures to reduce energy costs, and he advocated for realistic policies that allow domestic industry to grow while pursuing climate goals.
He also called for faster implementation of the EU Inc initiative, which seeks a unified set of rules to make it easier to start a business anywhere in the Union. Romania, he said, backs practical solutions that protect its industrial base. The meeting underscored a shared commitment to a more streamlined European single market.
