Romanian President Nicușor Dan to Join EU Arctic Summit in Finland

President Nicușor Dan will attend the European Arctic Summit in Rovaniemi, Finland on September 13-14, 2026, alongside leaders from Germany, Poland, Denmark and EU officials.

From September 13 to 14, 2026, President Nicușor Dan will travel to Rovaniemi, Finland, to participate in the European Arctic Summit organized by Prime Minister Petteri Orpo. The meeting brings together senior officials such as German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, European Council President António Costa and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas.

The agenda focuses on enhancing the EU’s strategic stance toward the Arctic amid rising geopolitical, economic and climate significance. Dan will present Romania’s vision for coordinated action across the Arctic-Black Sea corridor, highlighting the interconnection of security issues. He will also express Romania’s readiness to contribute to joint EU-NATO efforts, including projects on critical infrastructure, defence capabilities and energy security.
