Romanian reserve troops to take part in MOBEX mobilization drill in Bucharest-Ilfov

The Romanian Ministry of National Defence announced that reserve soldiers will join the MOBEX Bucharest-Ilfov mobilization exercise later this month, with participants staying at home overnight.

Approximately a few thousand reservists have been summoned for the MOBEX Bucharest-Ilfov 2026 exercise, scheduled for early October, according to General-major Mircea Gologan. The drill includes units from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Romanian Intelligence Service, the Special Telecommunications Service and the National Penitentiary Administration, with a handful of interior ministry staff and two reserve generals also participating.

Organisers emphasized that the training will last only a single day and that soldiers will sleep at their own homes, a detail highlighted in the informational leaflet. Selection will be based on medical, psychological and commanding-officer assessments, and most call-ups come from reservists who updated their status earlier this year. Activities will cover weapons firing, medical training, CBRN response, communications, tactical drills and drone operations, with lunch provided on site. Participants are urged to use public transport, as parking is limited, and large signage will be installed to prevent entry confusion.

Why it matters

The drill tests Romania's reserve readiness while minimizing disruption to civilian life and essential services.
