Romanians Favor Stricter School Safety Measures Amid Mixed Views on School Readiness
A new INSCOP Research poll shows strong public backing for drug testing of students over 14 and continuous audio-video monitoring in classrooms, while opinions on school preparedness remain split.
INSCOP Research’s latest Barometer surveyed a representative sample of Romanian adults about education policies ahead of the new school year. While respondents are sharply divided on whether schools are adequately prepared, a clear majority backs tougher safety rules, including drug testing for pupils older than 14 and continuous audio-video monitoring in classrooms. The poll also reveals strong endorsement for mandatory school uniforms as a way to lessen visible social differences.
Support for these measures varies by political affiliation, age, gender, education level and urban versus rural residence, with voters of PSD and AUR, older adults, women and state employees showing the highest approval. Conversely, younger voters, USR supporters and residents of larger cities tend to be more skeptical of the proposed safety interventions.
