Romgaz denies any state pressure over LNG purchase contracts amid gas scandal

In a Monday press release, Romgaz clarified that no Romanian state official has applied pressure on its management to finalize any natural-gas acquisition or sale, regardless of source. The clarification arrived after the trading day ended and amid a scandal concerning liquefied natural gas imported from the United States via third parties. Romgaz, led by CEO Răzvan Popescu, emphasized its status as a publicly listed company that must follow legal and corporate-governance frameworks.
The firm noted that commercial decisions are made solely through its internal decision-making mechanisms based on economic, commercial and strategic criteria. It pledged continued transparent communication of any material information through official channels. The statement seeks to separate the company’s commercial choices from political influence.
