Ronaldinho returns to play for Italian Serie C side Ravenna at age 46
Brazilian football icon Ronaldinho announced a comeback with Serie C club Ravenna, also becoming a shareholder.
Thousands gathered despite rain for a ceremony called "Ronaldinho Day" where the 46-year-old Brazil legend was introduced as the newest member of Ravenna, a third-tier Italian team. Ronaldinho, who retired in 2015 after a final match with Fluminense, expressed enthusiasm about helping his teammates and hinted at the possibility of scoring his 300th career goal. He will also acquire a share in the club, while head coach will determine whether he takes the field.
Owner Ignazio Cipriani, who took over the club in 2024, said the initiative is driven by romance rather than marketing. Ravenna placed third in Group B of the previous Serie C season and is targeting promotion to Serie B.
Why it matters
The comeback of a global football star draws attention to lower-division Italian soccer and could boost Ravenna's profile.
